The Long Service Medal was instituted in 1962.
(i) The Medal may be awarded to any person who is of irreproachable character and whom the President is satisfied has completed at least 25 years service in the service of :
a. in the service of the Government;
b. in the service of any statutory authority (other than a Town Council);
c. in the service of any organisation, association or body rendering services in the field of education;
d. in the service of any company which is wholly-owned by the Government and which is carrying on business mainly as an agent or instrumentality of the Government;
e. as a member of the personal staff of the President; or
f. in any 2 or more of the forms of service mentioned in sub-paragraphs (a) to (e).
ii) In computing the period of service under paragraph (i), any break in service for a period of one working day shall be disregarded
The Medal, in silver, consists of a multi-lobed disc having, on the obverse side, a circular shield bearing a crescent and 5 stars encircled by a scalloped embellishment. The reverse side of the Medal bears the State Arms and name of the Medal.
The Medal is to be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a ribbon. The ribbon is grey with a red centre band and a red stripe to each side.
